Fodder Camp

• We are operating in Rain Shadow Area which is having most scarcity of water in Man Khatav Tahsil of Satara District having rainfall of less than 350 mm Last 3 Years,facing acute shortage of water not only for farming but also for drinking.

• Entire farming is dependent on rainfall. Rainfall pattern is very uncertain,uneven & abnormal. Availability of water is challenge.

• The paucity of rainfall results in drought situation every 2-3 years. • This had very adverse social implications as these people were forced to live under very miserable living conditions, their children were deprived of education & income from farming was not sufficient to take care of their basic requirements of health, education, fodder for cattles & money for next year farming.

• Ground water level has drastically gone down

• Older water conservation structures were almost dead, as they were completely accumulated with sediments.

• Last 3 years there was very less rainfall. There is no fodder production so cattle are staying in the fodder camp i.e. Chara Chavani or cattle are given to the slaughterhouse.

• Every day people are demanding for Drinking Water i.e. Tanker Water is provided to each home by water tankers for daily purpose and drinking water for cattle and fodder for cattle.

• People are migrating to cities in search of work as painter, coolie, hamal, helper & even as a Sugarcane cutter leaving their children in anathashram.
